Life

Shifty eyes and faulty knees
Curly hair and maple trees

Polaroids and soccer balls
Bendy flags and laughter falls

Hallway hell and locker codes
Math and homework overloads

For school spirit, not really
Skip last class and pep rally

French class sucks and PE blows
Middle, high school comes and goes

Moving out and moving in
Tissues in the garbage bin

Study hall and stomach flu
Feeling lonely, feeling blue

Meet new people here and there
Learn to sing and what to wear

Nothing changed but age and friends
Memory that never ends

Thinking while dancing gets your thoughts mixed up

Breathe in

Scream out

Don’t you stop

Till the lights go out

One step forward

Two jumps back

It’s hard to reach

And that’s a fact

And if it’s not I’ll

Eat my hat

Devour my shoe

One plus one plus one’s not two

Pillow fight

Blanket war

That’s what sheets and covers

are for

Take a hike

Climb a tree

Keep going up until

you see

Your house from here

Looks like an ant

Climb further

Unless you can’t

Inspire someone

Be inspired

Apply for a job

But don’t get hired

Wear pajamas

to the store

naked feet

on linoleum floor

Write a poem

Sing a song

Invite your friends

To sing along

Think about

Life for awhile

Look back on what you’ve done

And smile

Train of Thought

Woke up on the wrong day at the wrong time in the wrong century
And wondered why they couldn't see me through the wall, but
Realized I should have called her this summer because
Sometimes you just need to see them face to face.

So I slept like that, hair still wet from the shower
Colored lights from the lava lamp flashing against the wall
Thought to myself how weird it all was for everything and
Wishing he would stop with the drugs because he's losing to them.

Stared at the ceiling for an hour thinking about stuff that
Plot bunnies were attacking me with ideas and
The ladybug in the corner flicked on and off with the power
Watching the jaguar and koala climb up the lamppost.

Flipped over onto my side and remembered I couldn't do that but
Knowing me I'm too lazy to follow orders so I break the rules and
Anyway why would I waste my time sleeping when I've got other stuff to do, but
Learning that is like learning a whole new language to me.

Asked myself how I could wake up if I was never asleep anyway
Wondered if I had enough energy to change the song but
The tissue box fell through the crack and I got bored and
Just tired of waking up in the wrong place.

All is Silent

All is silent, all is still

Where is the fighting, where is the war

Streets are empty, no one is there

I must be safe then

I walk up to the window

The once still frame shatters

The snipers are watching

A bullet in wood

The glass all around me

I stand, small, startled

Not anything moves, still

Frozen in time

I run from the window

Far into the room where

My father is standing

Unmoving and pale

Frightened and trembling

I stare out the window

The dusty streets empty,

Silent, and still.

Swaying to the Music [[acrostic]]

So many
Wonderful
Attributes to the way
You dance,
I admire you, that
Nothing can distract you, you are
Gone, lost in

The music, as I lose myself in the beautiful
Orbs of light that are your eyes.

This moment is too perfect, your
Hair swishes about you as you spin, and
Everything glows in the soft

Moonlight, as even the moon is envious of your smile. You
Use the grass as a cushion for your feet as you dance about the garden.
So let this moment never end, and
I will always be
Complete.

Welcome.

Congratulations.

You lied and sweet-talked your way through elementary school

And now you are faced with a new challenge—

Middle school.

But don’t worry about it.

It only gets worse from here.

You’ll have to adapt to a completely new environment

And once you have,

They’ll tear it apart.

Make a new one

Called high school

But you don’t need to worry about that yet

So for now, welcome to

Life as it never was before.

Welcome to Hell.

What we need.

The basic necessities
The things they say you need
Water, which you have to drink
But it can also drown you.
Food, which is for energy,
But it can be poisoned or choke you.
Shelter, for protection from the weather
But you cannot stop the inevitable from happening.
Air, so you can stay alive
But what's the point of living
When you are drowning in your own water
Being poisoned by your own food
Being ruined by your own government
Miles away from your own shelter
That has been destroyed by people
Who breathe the same air as you?

Hide and Seek (poem Version)

I scream.
The blood flows down, down, down
To the floor
The knife twists in the wound
Her screams drown out mine
Trapped
The baby is killed in her womb
She drops to the floor in pain
On her knees
Can't stop screaming
Someone open the door
Let me out of here
Trapped
Blood on the floor
Help
Blood on the floor
Save me
Blood on the floor
Save her
Blood on my knees
I fall, screaming
Banging on the door
Someone let me out
She lays still
I still scream
The door breaks
I run through
The blood
On the floor
On my hands
As I kneel beside her
No more
I scream.

Beyond Repair

--
One
He never had a future
He was only in third grade
Two
She had her whole life before her
Until that fateful day
Three
He could have been somebody
But he threw it all away
Four
Okay we get it now
Stop trying to explain.
But
Going backwards now
Back to number
Three
Why we need strangers
To say who we could be?
And two,
It was only once,
A stupid, stupid thing.
One
No one cared to explain
Until it was too late
So why now
Instead of then?
What's with the delay?
If we had been told sooner
This may not have taken place.

You could have saved our futures...
But, no.
You had to wait.

I am purple
You are blue
I am the sock
And you, the shoe
I am love
And you are hate
I am the lock
And you, the gate
You are the stick
And I the gong
I am right
While you are wrong
You are the seed
And I am the flower
You are the minute
And I, the hour
You are night
While I am day
You are here
While I am away
We are opposites
But can't you see?
Without one, the other
Cannot be.

To unknown

My dear...

I don't know who you are
Or what time you live in
But I do know
That somewhere
Somehow
In some way
Someone loves you.
May be a friend
Or a lover
But just remember
That you are loved.
So take this small piece of advice
Even if you do not use it:
There is someone out there
That you love.
Be them a friend
Or more than that
But whoever they are
Tell them.
Even if you only love them as a friend
Let them know
That you are there for them.
And I promise you
That someday
Someone
In some way
Will return the favor.
